Blue: Ren

Ren is the fastest of the lot, and for good reason. While Kaleina prefers to bolt people from afar, Ren fights all the way in the front. Rather than directly attacking with spells as a traditional mage would, she uses magic primarily to enhance her blade and dance around her foe. An excellent duelist, her sword technique is accented by limited projectile capabilities (Youmu's B bullets).

Outside of battle, Ren usually wears a rather dour expression, and her tongue can be as sharp as her sword. She's a little stubborn, usually exasperated at something or another, and if she cared enough to have a favorite word it would probably be "Tch." Not to say she's completely disagreeable though—when she's in a good mood her disposition waxes sassy and she's been known to smile (smirk) occasionally. If Kaleina is spiky enough to be like Kyou, Ren is more of a classical "I hate you" tsundere. Heavy on the tsuntsun.

While I had a clear idea of what I wanted Kaleina to look like, I had some trouble with Ren's design. I wanted something sleek but still detailed, emphasizing the flowing nature of her sword technique. I went through several revisions of a few different outfits before settling on this one; I'm still not entirely sure about it, but at least it looks mostly coherent. I picked a katana over traditional longswords because, Japanese biases aside, it fits her in both form and function. That, and I love the look of a katana with no guard (100% accuracy!).

In fact, in many ways she's a bit of a tribute to D.Gray-man's Kanda Yuu, if anyone is familiar with that. All, like, two of you. It's even in her name, but I'll leave that one for whoever's curious to figure out.
